    Richard CuthbertsonThis game is a match 3 or more gems of same colour/type puzzle game; but with a nice rpg element thrown in. You go on quests which involve battling against different fantasy creatures. The battles involve matching 3 or more gems (4 gems rewards you with an extra turn.) each gem you match has different qualities. Skulls reduce your opponents health. Gold gives you more gold, which you can spend inbetween quests to improve your character. Star gems are xp, and mana gems fill up your magic bars which when high enough enable you to cast spells against your opponent. As the game gets more difficult, you have to think ahead and carefully choose the right gems to match, as making mistakes can cause your opponent to line up 4 of a kinds and skulls in their turn which can obliterate you. The battles become more intense and strategic as the game goes on, and more addictive. One cool bit, is being able to use your experience points and gold inbetween battles, to level up your character and learn better spells and increase his/her chances in battle. Higher cunning than your opponent for example means you get to start first, and the higher your battle points, the more damage the skulls do when you collect them. This is a really good quality game that will keep you playing for hours, you can't really go wrong with it, well worth £4.

As you progress through the game you pick up "spells" which enable you to use strategy against your many opponents, most of whom have more life than you! Keeps your interest to the end. Once the game is over, you can play any of your opponents in a quick match, which is an excellent feature, making you leave the game on the phone. Well thought-out and great fun!
    Adrian JacksonPuzzle quest has been around for quite a while on a variety of platforms now, from pc through handheld games consoles to ps3 - and now mobile phones.

    The premise is simple. It's a fairly standard bejewelled-style puzzler converted to work as a competitive game, with some rpg trappings and some interesting gameplay variations that are worked into a story mode. You alternate taking turns with your opponent, building rows of coloured pieces to charge your powers or rows of skulls to attack your opponent. Longer rows give more benefits, including multipliers and extra turns. Because you know your opponent will have the next turn, you need to plan ahead to ensure that you're making moves that benefit you without setting them up for a strong attack.

    The problems with the game in the past have been the random and arbitrary nature of the replacement tiles - it's all too easy for the ai player to end up destroying you completely with a string of lucky drops - and the somewhat unbalanced nature of some of the powers you can get, allowing powers to be chained to give you an almost automatic win.

    While the first problem still exists here, the second seems to have been reduced, or at least for the couple of characters i've played with. The abilities are satisfying, but not as ridiculously overpowered as in other versions of the game.

    If you like puzzlers, this is an interesting and deeper than normal twist on the genre, and one that has rightly received a lot of critical acclaim. The only downside of having it on your mobile is the sheer amount of time it'll eat up.
