| James Thirtle | I feel very mixed about this game - overall i'd say they've done a good job at creating a racing game on a mobile phone, but, simply, mobile phone's aren't *ready* for racing games yet.
My first reaction to the game was very negative - it looks pretty enough... Until the graphics start to move. The racing screen has incredibly little depth - corners don't appear until you are right onto them, cars vanish into the distance very quickly; and the animation is very primitive - there are only five views of your car (driving straight, soft turn left and right, hard turn left and right), and the opponent cars leap from location to location on the road, and it's very hard to get a sense of where they 'really' are in order to steer around them and overtake.
The control method is far from great, either - because a mobile is limited by the fact that only one button can be pressed at one, you have a frustrating situation where turning is done with one key, and turning whilst breaking with a different key (rather than turning being two keys, and breaks being added with another). The thing that makes a racing game really good, and satisfying, to play is the 'feel' you gain in control of your car - when you get a sense of how your car is skidding, how it slips into a power slide, and so on. Sadly, you get practically no feel at all in this game - as mentioned about, the graphics of your car give you little feedback, and there are no sound effects at all (it makes you appreciate how much engine pitch and squealing tires tell you about your car in a console game). As a result, controlling your car is very hit and miss (particularly in races where you are trying to accumulate 'kudos' for clean driving and tricks - these levels seem to be incredibly difficult because it's so hard to get a sense of what your car is doing).
So, with all this said, why the relatively high rating? Well, probably because I still keep finding myself playing it - there's lots *in* this game, and while some of the levels don't work at all well (frustratingly the races against other cars have a huge element of luck in them because it's so hard to judge over-taking maneuvers) some levels are really satisfying and good fun. Building up cash, winning medals, gaining buying new cars, unlocking levels - these are all things that keep you coming back to a game, and pgr does them very well. If only the racing were a little more enjoyable, this could be great.
By all accounts this is the best racing game on a mobile phone, and that i'll believe - it's well presented, well thought out, and has lots of features. But, sadly, I just don't think a mobile phone can run a *really* good, really successful, racing game yet - the technology just isn't good enough, and this game shows how limiting it still is.
This game made me really want to get back to an x-box and play the original pgr again - this is no substitute for a real console racer, but you will find it passes a bus journey reasonably happily while you get back to your console. |

| David Collins | Simply brilliant. Exactly like the old xbox title, ported fantastically to my mobile. Great graphics, effects (ker-ching!) and gameplay. Haven't finished this one yet, but am reserving my playing it for "special moments"! Get it, simply get it... Overall: excellent! |

| Edward Nicholas | Project gotham is one of the better mobile racing game. On a par with asphalt 3 and better (in my opinion) than need for speed pro. |
