There seems to be a lot of people having a lot of trouble connecting their GX10 or GX10i to their PC - in particular, trying to transfer pictures. May be we can bring together different experiences and sort out, once and for all, what works and what doesn't.

Let's start by listing what software is out there for transfering pictures to a PC:

1. GX10i COM-cable handset manager:
This is the program that comes on a CD with the GX10i. It can also be downloaded from the Sharp Telecoms Support site: www.sharp-mobile*****. It is in fact a cut down version on the Mobile Action USB-cable handset manager.

* I doubt very much this program will work with the GX10. But has anyone even got it to work with the GX10i? My guess is that either you need a specific model of COM cable, or the program just doesn't work at all!

2. GX10i USB-cable handset manager:
Also refered to as the Fone Data Suite. This made by Mobile Action Technology and can be downloaded here: www.mobileaction*****.

* Again, I doubt very much this program will work with the GX10. Also, Mobile Action state that the program will only work with their USB cable, model number MA-8110P. Can anyone confirm that the program works with that cable? Has anyone got it to work with a different cable?

3. Data Writer (backup saver) and GX10Extract:
Also known on this forum the "dodgy Germain software"! This consist two programs. The first saves a data file of what's on our phone. You can download that one here: www.angelfire*****/falcon/simonster_7/sharpgx/. The second extracts pictures, etc. from the data file. That one can be found here: home.arcor.de/th/thjakob/Sharp_gx10/programs/.

* As far as I know, this only works with a COM cable. But does it need a specific make of cable? Has anyone with a GX10 not been able to get this to work? I've heard a suggestion that it doesn't work for the GX10i. Can anyone disprove that?

4. Does anyone know of other software? The final (and expensive) option is to use MMS/email. (In case anyone is in any doubt, you can't use infrared to transfer pictures with the GX10/GX10i.)

Please post your experiences, whether they were successes or failures. Try to be specific about what cable and what software you tried. Hopefully we can sort this out.

I have a GX10i
I bought data cable XN-1DC10 from eBay for £3.98 including P&P.
The discs with it were for modem set-up only.
I downloaded handset manager from the Sharp website.
Very simple to use.
I am now able to transfer pictures from my phone to the pc and from the pc to my phone.
