Siemens has issued a statement warning users of a bug in their 65-series handsets (C65, CX65, M65, S65, SL65 as well as all provider variations such as the CV65, CT65, CXV65 and CXT65). When the user is in a call and the battery runs down far enough for the phone to shut off, the bug causes the phone to play the disconnect melody at extremely high volume in some circumstances, loud enough that prolonged exposure could result in hearing damage.
For the time being, Siemens recommends disabling the disconnect melody, and not continuing a conversation until the battery runs completely dry. Siemens is also working on a software patch to fix the problem that is in testing and approval with network carriers, and expects it to be available in the coming weeks at no charge.
