Review
of Worms 2008
|
| Helene Möller | This is a very good game, very much like the pc game. Easy to manage, hard to master ;) a lot of fun. |
| Laura Derby | Ok! Hard toplay with touch screen! Would be better with non touch screen phone! |
| Adam Tan | What a blast! Okay, the game takes some getting used to, being played on an eensy-weensy screen. However, for fans of the worms franchise, this is a great game to have in your phone, for those times when you are tired of waiting and some cute virtual violence is a good solution to vent your stress. The range of weapons is good and the adaptation works surprisingly well on the handheld. |
| Ali Almedaihki | Entertaining game. |
| Thom Bleasdale | This is worms. It is just as worms should be, and it is great fun. It lacks sound effects (on my ks360), but that is a small thing. It plays really well, and it is very addictive. Great fun! |
| Jeff Filmer | A good rework of the original. |
| Michael Cooper | Always been a fan of worms, this is no exception. Good fun for your mobile. My only complaint is that some of the classic weapons have been replaced by ones that arent as much fun as the originals. But still, its not bad. |
| Robin Shields | Good fun, some new ideas. Another good game from the worms empire! |
| Steve Lazell | Why is it that nothing can compare to the good old original worms? I have tried worms 2007 and now this worms 2008 only to be severely disappointed. Its clunky... The graphics albeit good, put the worms all over the place and seem to sit in thin air. Without going into too much detail, its just bad... If you have a choice, get the original and save your money on this one. |
| Geraint Ashley | Addictive but too same-ish. Could do with different game plays to make it a little more interesting. Good if you only have a few minutes to spare. |
| Andrew Timlin | Poor - not worth getting if you have worms 2007 - which was a classic game. Unclear controls and frustrating gameplay. Best avoided. |
| Kevin Davia | Worms 2008 is unique in some aspect, although to be honest I still prefer the orginal, the new weapons are entertaining but sometimes the game play can be frustrating when the mobiles cpu can't decide and you wait for the time to tick out. Other than that, it's a good game, still fun, but could more weapon choices. |
| Peter Venn | The attention to detail is stunning. This game is great for those odd five minutes.
An excellent game. |
| Michael Ruf | A complete worms title for your mobile. Numerous weapons, randomized terrains, and up to 4 players. Unfortunately, ai is pathetic (extremely slow and simple). I only choose to play against myself which is more than i'll ever need. If you've ever played worms on your pc, you'll absolutely love it for your mobile! |
| Stanley Owen | Good game for the mobile, a little small, I need to use my glasses, but all in all it's great fun. |
| Neil Evans | Worms 2008 is a nice little mobile version of the original worms franchise that we all know and love from the consoles and commodore amiga's before that! There are a few different game modes which help the longevity of the game such as 'mini-games' like space invaders as well as a multiplayer version of the main game and of course the main 1 player game. Unfortunately despite its playability it is too easy and too short. There are a few glitches such as the computer opponents only using the bazooka and sometimes they are stuck 'thinking' about their next move until the 60 seconds runs down. This can be very frustrating especially if like me, you are basically playing the game to pass time when on public transport or something as you will just find yourself turning your phone back on as it slips in to the screensaver mode for the 3rd time!
Overall its not a bad little game, but considering it's great games in the large format you could be left disappointed. |
| Michael Jenkins | Tough to play. |
| John Percivaldi | I really looked forward to this game as I have played it on different consoles in the past. Unfortunatly it was very difficult to play on a phone. Despite my n95 having a large screen it was very difficult to see what you were doing. A great shame. |
| Melissa Stallard | Provides hours of time wasting fun! Bit of an issue with the game freezing, but still worth buying and playing. |
| David Kay | Very exciting game once you get the hang of it. |
| Maurice Pigaht | Playability is great. It takes a while to understand what all the weapons do.
The intelligence of computer opponents is severely limited and uncreative. This is definitely a 2-player game. |
| Jason Wade | This is a game that youy can play over and over and keeps to the worms theme . Top banana bomb. |
| David Matthews | Having played this game, feel its a classic game from the 90s. Though feel there should of been an option of difficulty. |
| Mikkel Toft-olsen | Great graphics and fairly wide variety of games. Everything is however clouded by the fact that any opponent worm who cant find a direct shot, waits out its turn making every opponent move (or lack of) last up to 60 seconds! |
| Martin Thomsen | Yes! Its worms just as you know them... And if you dont... Go get it now! This plays just like the one on pc. |
| Sarah Wilmott | Well my son is very pleased to have this on his phone - it does have a few issues with key presses not working and it isnt full screen its just over half size - but it is still enjoyed thoroughly! |
| Haroun Kola | I suck at this game but I love trying again and again to attack the other worms.
Its my first association with worms, I bought this for my 16 year cousin but finding my own 37 year old brain being tested by the variety of weapons, how to deploy them and how to be accurate with them.
Its given me hours of endless pleasure :). |
| Ivan Chan | I had always been a fan of worms. Having played the previous worms mobile, I was delighted to see the new 2008 version. This version has better graphic style and lotsa animations that adds alot of life into this title, so much so that it doesn't feel like a regular mobile game anymore. The additional side games are a welcome diversion but frankly, the main strategy game is alot of fun and very addictive already. The arsenal has been revamped as well, with a couple of familiar weapons from previous titles like robo sheep and drop ship. However, I do miss some weapons like dynamite and holy bomb that are not included in this version. Overall, this is a highly recommended mobile game! |
| Dmytro Prykhodko | Excellent game! Best if played with buddy. The story line felt kind of short, but classic mini-games is a big plus. It has space invaders and moon lander. |
| Colin Parsons | Good, particularly if you pick it up for 1.79! Absolute bargain! |
| Dave Voce | Good but a bit slow waiting for computer to react. |
| Peter Williams | Not a bad game for passing the time of day but certainly not as good as the last one in the series. Keeps you entertained for a short time though. |
| Andrew paul Belcher | I was not to sure how this game would work on a small screen but it does . The graphics are clear and quick with good game play. |
| Andrew Brierley | Fun game, need a bigger sreen though!! |
| Christopher Brooks | An entertaining game with enough different scenery to keep it fairly interesting. The computer is easy to beat because its ai is not that smart, and your weapons are too powerful. You cant easily scroll the terrain to find your opponent if they are out of view which is a little annoying. Neverthless its a fun game and worth the two quid. |
| Pawel Dudzinski | Excellent game and very fun. Thanks. |
| Jacob King | I love this game! Its just like all the platform versions. You get the same strategic gameplay whereby you move around then make your attack. It even has the option for a multiplayer game where you just pass your phone to the next person for them to make a move. You can have up to 3 players at a time. In single player mode you can play a quick game, campaign, minigame or make a custom game. The quick games are exactly what they say and you get all of the weapons straight away. Each time you play there is a different scenario, I dont think ive played the same scenario twice. In campaign mode there are 12 worlds all with a different scenario. Between each world you have the option to play a minigame to earn some extra points. The minigames are invasion (virtually a worms version of "space invaders"), frag command (i found this a little complicated at first but its good when you know what youre doing), astro arrival (you have to land your ship on the landing strip with limited fuel) and rescue (you simply have to stop aliens abducting your friends). The custom game is fantastic as you can have up to four teams and control up to three of them. You get to select the world and the number of teams. There are 16 weapons ranging from grenade style weapons to rocket launchers to defence mechanisms to kamikazes to teleports to surrender. You typically get 100 health points for each worm in your team and there are usually 3-4 worms in your team (however I have encountered a couple of scenarios where you fight solo).
overall I really enjoyed the game due to its constant variety in scenarios and excellent gameplay. The only thing I would change would be to have more levels in campaign.
9/10 :). |
| Anthony Owen | I absolutely hate this game. Ai is pathetic - sometimes the computer sits there doing nothing, deciding what to do, until its turn-time runs out. Weapons are boring or just don't work (software bugs?). There is no in-game sound on my d500 version, only the jingle. Now I know why its being sold for under £2 - and even that is too expensive. |
| William Stapleton | Great game just as described. |
| Anthony Punshon | After the massive disappointment that Worms 2006 was, I bought this one with trepidation. On firing it up, you can see it was made by THQ Wireless, who made Worms Crazy Golf. This was a good fun game, and played on its simplicity which was definitely one of its strengths. That had to be a good start.
On first play, I was suitably impressed. Decent selection of weapons with no Banana Bomb in sight! Easy enough controls too. However, after playing a few times, the huge list of bugs in this game starts to rear its ugly head!
Things like Cluster Frags just disappearing rather than exploding, sometimes having your go completely skipped over, health packs not actually changing your health? And I could go on. The list is actually quite extensive when you start to write it down!
The computer?s AI is also very limited, sticking to Bazookas and Cluster Frags mostly, with the odd foray into a standard Grenade or two. Also if the wind isn?t in just the right position to pull off what it deems the right shot, the computer will just sit there for the full 60 seconds rather than skipping its go. This can get very tedious after a while/
It?s also not very bright, having no sense of self preservation. You could literally win this game by positioning all your worms next to the computer?s worms and then watching it blow itself up trying to kill yours.
Short version - This could have been a great game, but was nowhere near ready for release. I would rather have waited for a finished Worms 2009 than getting this game now in its current state.
However, if you just stick to trading bazookas, you can get a good few games out of this, so despite the unfinished state of the game, it is still a huge step in the right direction after Worms 2006. |
| Richard Wortham | This version of the classic worms game could hardly fail to be a success, given its heritage. All worms games are, to a greater or lesser extent, very playable. However, since worms world party, the franchise seems to have fallen off a bit - worms 3d was a great disappointment.
Unfortunately, worms 2008 shares many of worms 3d's flaws. The weapons are new and nowhere near as fun, as usable or as varied as the game's 2d ancestors, the landscapes have so much friction that shockwaves from explosions have no effect at all and, worst of all (although understandably, given the limitations of a phone conversion), none of these traits can be changed in the options menu. In fact, the only options are single or multiplayer variants.
On my phone, a samsung e900, it loads slowly and runs very jerkily, but this may vary between handsets.
On the plus side, the essential worms strategy and fun isn't entirely absent. It just takes a bit of getting used to. Would I buy it again? Not at this price. |
| Joel bagge Hansen | The gameplay is nice and does stick rather close to the original worms game. You easily get started with this game, and the gamelength is also rather short, making it suitable for playing on your mobile phone.
The most disappointing thing, is the serious lack of different weapons to choose among. After playing the game a few times, you simply get tired of using that same grenade thing over and over again.
The game would have been improved a lot, if more different kinds of weapons were added, and also having craters come down from the sky once in a while with new interesting stuff. |
| Rick Taylor | I was a bit dissapointed with this one. Worms 07 is fantastic and I am still playing it a year later! The campaign on this one is so easy even for me! The quick game is very limited with not enough weapons. The side games are a good idea but not vey playable time would have been better spent on another campaign. Better graphics than 07 but without the same gameplay. |
| Malcolm Clarke | Another excellent game that has me hooked for hours. |
| Mathew Pratt | Those used to pc and console versions of worms maybe disappointed by the restricted weapons and game options of the mobile version, but the essence of the worms magic hasn't been lost and this game is a satisfying conversion. Excellent graphics and sound fx. The ai worms are a little unimaginative but deadly with their bazookas! |
| Gary Smith | Excellent fun, brillant all round. |
