Review
of Galaxy on Fire 3D
|
| Mark Robinson | Excellent space game. Not exactly elite, but for a mobile game it is pretty impressive. I wish that I could choose to do the missions or just fly about freeform inbetween, because its quite hard to save up to buy the new ships and weapons from just doing the missions. But hey, i'll be looking out for galaxy on fire 2. |
| Stuart Riley | Excellent game with fast graphics. Reminded me of playing elite back in the old days. Initial campaigns are good but it gets a bit repetitive once thats over. Still, you can kep playing for a long while afterwards, and I often play a few everyday... Just gotta try out the better ships and the fancy lasers. |
| Madhav Desabhotla | A good game. You will never get tired of playing it. Good graphics and smooth controls. |
| David King | Ok, this is probably the best game I have on my mobile! It has brilliant graphics, is in full 3d, and has two game modes - instant action and campaign. The first one says it all - you are dropped into a mission of your choice with the default ship. The campaign is the true crowning glory, though. You play through 12 (i think) missions which are automatically set. Then you get a hyperdrive and star map, and can go around to whatever planets you want, doing whatever missions you want! You can even buy a new ship, new weapons, and sell loot from your battles. You can do missions for both side of the conflict (humans v vossk) and an innovative loyalty meter changes according to who you do your missions for. If you are more loyal to one side, credirs from missions for them will be greater and goods from them will cost more. Planets have different tech levels which determine what you can buy there and for how much, and planets never stay the same. The only downside is slight repetitiveness, and one or two missions which you will really hate, but you can avoid doing these if you want to. A solid 9/10. |
| Andy Rice | Long hours of play on this game but once you're ship is suitable upgraded not much out there to challenge you. Definitely one of the better mobile games i've played though. |
| David Fulton | Fun, fairly varied, and great to look at. |
| Kevin Saywell | Very hard. |
| Terry Millard | Without a doubt one of the best mobile games I have ever played - graphics superb and really simple but engaging play. The only issue I have so far is that you can't upgrade your ship as often as I like. That said though, I still would reccommend buying it now! |
| Joe Sutton | It seems quite fun, but the loading times are just too long. You literally spend longer looking at the loading screen than playing. I don't spend long playing games on phones, so I don't want to waste time looking at loading screens.
That said, the combat is quite fun, and i'm sure i'll play it again... When I have more than just a few minutes to spare... And I can't get to my pc. |
| Toby Reeve | Very good game, excellent 3d graphics, and its huge!! Will take about 50 hours at least!!
Only downside is missions get a bit repetitive but its fun all the same, especially upgrading with new technologies. Highly recommended!! |
| Joshua Westbury | Mission-based space combat game. Combat similar to freelancer (pc) although the game has a more old-fashioned, linear structure - complete a mission, sell junk, buy new ship or upgrades, on to next mission. The graphics are excellent. What this game proves is that it would be possible to write an elite-style open ended space game for mobile - so why isn't there one? |
| WAP Review | Awesome. |
| James Thirtle | Very impressive for a mobile game - excellent graphics, smooth game-play, good controls, and a vast amount to potentially do. The only problem is that in a game clearly designed to give you a good 20 hours of potential play time, the content does get repetitive. There are around half a dozen basic mission types which cycle around and around, and are all basically 'shoot stuff'. As a result, you won't be playing this for a long periods at a time. However, there *is* plenty to come back for, and the basic pleasure of buying better ship parts, exploring another system, and seeing if something new and odd is just around the corner is great.
This game is a lot of fun to play, and if you like to fly around and shoot stuff, it will certainly satisfy. |
| Russell Booth | Amazing. Stunning. Genius. I didn't think a game like this was possible on a mobile phone. It's like being plunged into a star ship battle from a star wars movie [one of the good ones]. Unbelieveably well realised and polished it totally immerses you in the action. Ladies and gentlemen we have come a long way since snake - we've hit lightspeed. 10. |
| Richard Hendra | Great action paced game with awesome graphics. A bit unstable on my nokia 6234, comes up with "application error" at times meaning I have to exit and restart |
| D h Prasannavira | Excellent graphics - awful music - great range of scenarios - only wish I had a bigger screen - game can be too difficult to play and started losing interest. |
| Phil Bennett | Amazed at the smoothness of detail, didnt buy for a while because 3d is never this good? Good tough challenge. The vibration feature works really well but would of been nice to have sound effects option on w810i rather than music on/off
Hence my stingy 9 out of 10 :o). |
| Paul Robson | Well, what can I say? For a die hard fan of the wing commander servies on the old amiga, as well as the pc for the later games, I do like a space sim and this mobile game is brilliant!
Considering the platform the game is built on, the speed of gameplay is unbelieveable. Sharp graphics and long missions with a good storyline so far, (been playing about 2 hours solid!) I would recommend this to anyone who wants to while away the hours, but beware its addictive!
The only thing that stops it getting a ten in my book is the length of time the loading takes between levels, but the gameplay makes up for the frequent waiting.
All in all, perhaps the most spot on game of its type i've played on a mobile. |
| C j Gibbons | Surprisingly excellent for a mobile game - i've now racked up 10 hours or so and feel like i've only just scratched the surface!
Graphics are very good indeed, the core gameplay is good fun and very responsive. The missions get a bit repetitive, but that's hardly surprising and something that happens even in full-on pc games (yes freelancer, that means you!), so i'm not going to mark a 512kb game down for that.
The "trade" option is a bit disappointing - from the blurb I would have thought actual trade (i. E. Buying goods in one location and selling them in another) was possible, but this is limited to stuff picked up in space during the course of a mission, and is sell-only. I suppose a full galaxy-wide trade system might have been a bit of a stretch in a mobile game as well, but if elite managed it 20-odd years ago, I don't think it's undoable.
The one thing which is really annoying is the loading times. I'm aware this may be due to my handset rather than the game particularly (loading from the hard drive on an n91 may be slower than from flash memory - if I could work out how to move it to the phone memory I could check, but I can't so I won't), but it sometimes feels like I spend more time just watching the loading screens than actually playing the game.
Still, even with this problem, it's an excellent game. Probably the best game i've yet played on a mobile. If anyone at fishlabs is listening, a sequel with a beefed-up trade model would definitely be on my "to buy" list! |
| Gregg Logan | A huge game for a mobile, will take ages to complete the game 100%. Well worth the credits. |
| Nathan Lenehan | Wow! I never thought graphics could be this good on a mobile. The games fast pace and fast, smooth, detailed graphics actually gets the old pulse rate going at times as you really get into 'the zone'. Theres a decent enough story line thrown in with new weapons, accessories and ships to buy to keep you interested in the gameplay. This is a game benchmark by which other games can be graded, buy this game or you'll seriously miss out. |
| Nicholas Gough | This game is just amazing. Smooth graphics, wicked sound, brilliant gameplay and well, all games of this type going forward have a stake in the ground to beat. If you buy one game this year - make it galaxy on fire. |
| Phil Burfield | One word sums it up, superb, good graphics, great battles, reminds me of the old pc game wing commander. Well worth the money. |
