In this futuristic sports game you must lead your team Brutal Deluxe from the bottom of the 2nd division to victory in the 1st division, unleashing a beating on league superstars like Super Nashwan, Fatal Justice and Lethal Formula along the way.
This totally faithful version of the Amiga and MegaDrive classic lets you train your team and beat the other players to a pulp as you try to win the Speedball championship. Review of
Speedball 2 Brutal Deluxe 2650

| Edward Howden | It's all here, the graphics the music the brutal game play everything. A must for fans of the original game and nostalgia junkies. |
| Anthony Avery | As a huge fan first time around (specifically on the amiga and st) I couldn't wait for the retro rush I thought this game was going to provide. It looks superb (i really think it could stand up to being 3 times my screen size (im on the 6280). The sound is a huge let down. You really miss the crunching tackle noises and someone shouting out 'ice cream' during the goal replays. You only have an option of: in your face music or silence and I tell you now you'll have it on silent. The control mechanism is a tricky one to master, as diagonal movement is key to gameplay. However, once you develop your own method of coping with the limitations of one direction button at a time, gameplay only frustrates slightly. Finally, the gym. This was slow when this game was first released, now the kitting out of your players is akin to a snail on skunk. It takes ages for those little orange bars to fill up. All that said this game has survived the transition to mobile well and I do not want to discourage developers from converting more classics. 'blood money' anyone? This game is a classic on any format. The lack of sound is why this game has slipped to a seven. Aa. |
| Christopher Goff | I knew that as long as this was a good port of what is one of my favourite ever amiga games then it was going to be great. And it is!
The gameplay is deeper than you would think; it's not just about knocking people over and running the ball into the goal, there are plently of powerups and other ways of scoring points like lighting up all the stars which keep it more interesting, and although it does become quite challenging as you go on you always keep coming back for more. Remember that even if you come up against a team that is way more powerful than yours you should be able to come up with some sort of stragety to beat them!
On the down side there's the obvious point of the game getting a bit frantic meaning controlling with a phone keypad gets a bit hard, but it's not like you wouldn't expect that! My only real criticism would be the sound; the game has music but no fx, and having played the original game these really do add to the gameplay.
Overall a great, addictive game with a suprising amount of depth. |
