| Simon Doust | I have this game on nokia 6230 so some features may differ, but this is besides the point.
What we have here is a simple, addictive, arcade-style football game, with decent presentation and enjoyable gameplay.
There are 3 basic game modes. Friendly, allows you to pit yourself against a cpu component choosing from the 32 teams that competed in the fifa world cup 2006 tournament; cup, more on this in a bit; penalty shootout - this is self-explanatory and ideal for practicing those spot-kicks.
Friendlies are simple and offer a good introduction to the game. Furthermore, you can choose game time and also whether or not the game will go to extra time and penalties, however after a while this can get a bit tiresome unless you fancy a bit of a challenge and pit say togo against italy.
Cups are the main stay of the game. There are 2 cups available, however both are similar, the only difference being in one of them the groups from fifa world cup 2006 are re-enacted, whereas the other one throws teams together randomly, with the same knock-out format occurring as you progress. One little thing for the anoraks though, the group winners from group a don't play the runners-up in group b in the int'l cup '06 game, but this detracts only slightly from the fun.
The sound is dire but you can turn it off and my overall feeling is that the gameplay is too easy, but as a game it's a lot of fun to play and I find myself coming back time and time again for one more strive to glory, usually with one of the lower nations.
Having had a taster of real football 2006 on nokia 6280 it would have been nice to have been able to select club teams, play more tournaments and have more stats available but this may be a limitation with the 6230. What we do have here though is a solid football simulation that allows you to do what sven failed to do; carry england to glory in germany 2006. |
