Doom looks better than ever on Xbox One X.
On March 29, 2018, Xbox One X owners received the long-awaited 4K upgrade for Doom. According to Bethesda, the patch brought the resolution up to “4K on both Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro”. However, an analysis from Digital Foundry reveals that this isn’t the case. While the Xbox One X version achieves native 4K at times, it still uses dynamic scaling to maintain 60 FPS performance by lowering the resolution. In comparison, the PlayStation 4 Pro version only achieves 1440p resolution at its peak when dynamic scaling isn’t involved.
